Local business in Barrow upon Humber

Please get in contact if you wish to have your business included on this page.

Sargeant’s Butchers is a family run butchers and bakers on the High Street of Barrow upon Humber, first established in 1980 and taken over by Ben, Sarah and their two girls in May 2014.

Top quality meat and other products sold is locally sourced where possible. As well as beef, pork and lamb there is chicken, rabbit, game birds, venison and guinea fowl in season.

Sargeant’s recipe for Lincolnshire Sausages is over 100 years old but there has been plenty of innovation for modern tastes with a ‘John Harrison’ caramelised red onion and ginger flavour variety and a ‘Midby’ sausage containing pork, spring onion and garlic.

There is a large selection of homemade pies, sausage rolls, pasties, cakes and ready meals all of which are produced and baked on site.

Outside catering is also available which can provide buffets for up to 100 people.

Sargeants are stockists of Lincolnshire Poacher and Colstan Bassett Stilton, Pattersons preserves and chutneys, Mr Huda’s Sauces and Pipers Crisps amongst many of the products sold.

Harrison’s Past and Present, located in the Market Place, offers both a Tea Room (see Eat/Drink/Sleep page) and a place to browse though a wide selection of Antiques and Collectables.  Perfect for that unique present or something for around the house.

Open Thesday through Saturday (closed Sunday and Monday) 10am until 4pm.

The newsagent shop on Barrow upon Humber High Street was established in 1963 by Ron and Betty Stacey after they purchased what had been a long standing drapery shop. The building itself is part of a terrace built in 1844 – unfortunately the neighbouring bank and dental surgery have long since closed.

The current owners, Sue and Shane, bought the business in 2008 and have extended the range of the traditional newsagents. In addition to stocking newspapers, magazines and tobacconist goods, the shop provides home news delivery service throughout Barrow and the outlying villages of Thornton Curtis and Wootton.

Traditional sweets are very popular with both locals and visitors to the village and a good range is always available. The shop also caters for  special occasions with a good selection of greeting cards, party invites, birthday banners, badges and helium balloons – enhanced by a wide selection of gifts, including jewellery, bags, mugs, photo frames, key rings and children’s hair accessories all of which are updated regularly. Party sweet cones and sweet hampers can be ordered too!

Another welcome addition to this small shops offering is the Hermes Parcelshop facility. Offering a seven day a week drop off and pick up service for today’s on line shoppers.

Why not pop in and have a browse around and in the summer months try our popular Angelito’s Italian ice cream.  Hot drinks to go are available all year round!
